Lou Heiser was born in Chicago, Illinois where he attended The Chicago Art Institute. He later studied oil painting at the University of Illinois while pursuing an architectural degree. Lou had a long career as an illustrator – working for advertising agencies and studios, ultimately establishing his own a small studio. Lou feels that illustration provided a wonderful experience and training ground for landscape painting. Although, he prefers oil painting because it offers many freedoms including a third dimension of texture and brushwork. “While I enjoy painting on location for its teaching aspects, I prefer studio painting where less visual scenery forces more imagination and design.”
